#157: Ukes on New Zealand Breakfast tv

As is well known, the Ukes have just left Australia and are currently on tour in New Zealand. For Monday morning a short TV appearance for TVNZ is planned from about 7:30am NZST.
You can assume, that it will be part of the breakfast programme of the TVNZ channel "One". "Breakfast" is broadcast from Monday to Friday between 6am and 9am New Zealand Time. That means, from the European point of view the Ukes's appearance will take place on Sunday, 24th Feb 2013 in the evening from about 6:30pm GMT (19:30 CET).
The website of TVNZ offers a live stream of the programme, but I have no information, if that will also be accessible from other parts of the world. The recent broadcasts are available from outside New Zealand though, for 7 days after the respective broadcast. Therefore it is expected, that the complete programme from next Monday will also be available for fans from anywhere in the world not later than a few hours after the live broadcast.

#141: 'The Ukes Down Under' - there's still time!
You can still support this, so here is an excerpt of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain's recent newsletter about Litmus Films' 'The Ukes Down Under' project:
You may recall that we drew your attention to Litmus Films' observational documentary of the Ukulele Orchestra's Australian Tour 2012 "The Ukes Down Under" and the wealth of high-end broadcast quality footage they captured. Scenes include our encounters with aboriginal musicians, male strippers and cattle ranchers.
This material puts the film in the territory of "A Hard Day's Night" or "Abba the Movie".
Ukes fans can only join us on this tour if the film is completed. Here's the opportunity to chip in and make it happen.
A lot of people have signed up already for an advance copy, pledging money for the DVD, or as sponsors (with consequent credits on the film end titles and DVD cover). It's great that so many people and corporate sponsors have come on board. You deserve our thanks and congratulations for having faith in this project.
Of course, anyone can set up a video phone and shoot a few clips for next to nothing, but a professional product with an experienced production team and director will have a reasonable cost - in this case US$40,000 (around ?25,000) just for the post-production. Up to now (8th June 2012) the funding pledges have reached around US$25,000, just over halfway. If the full target isn't reached, then the film won't go to completion and we won't be able to see it. The Ukes too want to see this film (and if it's completed, sell it on our website). As our only connection to the film is as its subject matter, it's easy for us to urge our fans to support the project without sounding like we're plugging our own product. We think the film (judging by the rushes Litmus has let us see) will be great, funny and interesting, and ... ahem... will expose some of the touchy underbelly and vulnerabilities of the performers in rather stressful situations. Which could be interesting to watch. Amusing even.
We urge you to chip in by pre-purchasing a copy, sponsoring it, or getting a clip of you playing your own music on a DVD Extra. Even if you've already stumped up, you could still help by drawing it to your pals' attention.
Some people might perceive this way of funding as a rip-off. It's not. The sums are modest, and the rewards good value. The Ukes of GB always like to see people they're associated with being paid properly for good work.
Of course, we can't finance this - it's not an advert for us but an independent operation seen with an outsider's eye, which might result in a warts-and-all view. It certainly will show The Ukes in situations which the fans will never have seen before, and not made by some bloke with a pocket camcorder hanging about backstage, but by a professional production team.
The deadline is only a week away (14th June 2012). If Litmus doesn't raise the target budget then the film won't get made, and the raw material, footage and audio (so far all acquired at Litmus' risk and expense) will be wasted.
We'd all like to see the final film. It's not a video of a gig, it's an observational documentary about a group of people with an interesting, absorbing, thought-provoking way of making entertainment and music which while successful, is actually counter-cultural, independent and anarchic. The Ukes of GB are a classic "Social Sculpture" as envisaged by Joseph Beuys (World famous artist, lecturer and leader of the Green Party). You could have your name in the film credits by supporting this project now, before it becomes a legend.

#140: Interview: Film about the Australia Tour
Julie of the
french UOGB fan
website
has published a very informative interview with Robert Stern of Litmus Films
on her site, where she asks him about his documentary about
the Australia Tour of the Ukes.
The Ukes have caught Robert Stern's attention in the eighties
already and in 2006 he made the first documentary about them, "
4
Strings & The Truth".
Now in Julie's interview he's speaking about his very personal experience with the band, what appeals him to make more films about them and why he chose the way of crowd funding for funding the project.
Interview
of Robert Stern by Julie from www.uogbfrogsfan.org (Das Interview in Englisch)
If you got curious about this absolutely intimate material about the Ukes on tour in Australia, you can contribute, to make sure, that it'll be made available.
On the crowd-funding website
indiegogo there
is an option for any budget to support the project financially and
while the smallest possible amount of $10 is already honoured by having your
name mentioned in the credits, you can secure your own copy of a
limited edition of the DVD including extras for only $30. For a few more dollars
a digital download of "
4
Strings & The Truth" is included and from $250 and more you
can send in clips of yourself playing the ukulele, which will be included
in the film. $10000 will make you an official sponsor.

#134: UOGB at the Admiralspalast Berlin
As I couldn't have described this any better, here just a quote from the current newsletter of the UOGB here:
Berlin gets the green light!
Sunday, 11 November 2012, 20.00:
Admiralspalast, Berlin (Germany)
Admiralspalast Berlin Urheber: In the 27 years of our career we have rarely played as historically interesting and beautiful a venue as the Admiralspalast in Berlin…
The Admiralspalast has been used for many different purposes throughout its history: after the opening in 1873 on top of a salt spring it was used as a public bath and, later, as an ice rink before it was made into one of Berlin’s most beautiful theatres.
After the wall came down the Admiralspalast sank into oblivion for a few years. Ever since its grand re-opening in 2006 it has been on top of the list of most exciting venues in Berlin…
Make sure you don’t miss our only date in Berlin this year and the chance to see the Ukes in this very special atmosphere.
Pre-sales for our fans start now and will last until Monday 12pm when the gig is announced to the general public.
